Highland Park Viking Legends

The Viking Legends are a Special Release Series celebrating the Norse history of the Orkneys. The packaging of the 3 releases Valkyrie, Valknut and Valfather has been designed by Jim Lyngvild, a Danish designer and artist and a descendent of Ragnvald Eysteinsson, the first Earl of the Orkney Islands.

Valkyrie:
Valkyries would descend from the heavens to find the best and bravest warriors and give them passage to Valhalla. The Whisky uses only a small amount of peated malt and is aged in sherry and bourbon casks.

Personal Tasting Notes:
Nose: There is notes of Apples and Spices followed by the desticntive smell of Orkney peat.
Taste: The taste is like a warming fire in a cold winter night. Chocolate, Spices and light Orkney Peat.

Valknut:
The word translates to ‘knot of those slain in battle’. The inter-linked triangles represents the transition from earthly life to the afterlife.
The Whisky uses a higher percentage of peated malt and like Valkyrie is aged in sherry and bourbon casks.

Personal Tasting Notes:
Nose: There is lots of spices and a hint of vanilla followed by again that distinctive Highland Park Orkney peat note.
Taste: The taste follows the nose but adds some more vanilla notes.

Valfather:
Valfather, better known as Odin is the third and last Whisky of the Series. The most peated Highland Park to date has been aged only in bourbon casks.

Personal Tasting Notes:
Nose: Light fruits like apples and pears followed by caramel and a lot of Orkney peat.
Taste: The taste is even smokier but still fruity and the caramel is now on the burned side.
